The Assassin’s Creed film debuts on December 14, and it’s going to get a promotional kick from a virtual reality experience.
20th Century Fox, New Regency, Advanced Micro Devices, and Alienware have teamed up to launched a VR experience that will take you into the world of the Spanish Inquisition through the lens of an Assassin.
In the movie, Callum Lynch (played by Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar. In the VR experience, you get to see the 15th-century world of Spain through his eyes as he takes on the oppressive Templar organization.
The VR experience debuted at the Game Awards on the Oculus Rift VR headset and the Samsung Gear VR. Between December 2nd and January 1, 2017, the Assassin’s Creed Movie VR Experience will roll out to cinema-goers at AMC Theaters in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, and New York City.
“The Assassin’s Creed Movie VR Experience is a thrilling piece of virtual reality that will excite aficionados of the game, fans of the movie and newcomers alike. We are delighted to team up with Fox and are excited to demonstrate how world-class VR can be produced and experienced on AMD technology,” said Roy Taylor, AMD corporate vice president of content, alliances, and VR, in a statement.
Developed and rendered using innovative AMD Radeon technology that is designed to fuel the creation of real-time photorealistic VR content, the Assassin’s Creed Movie VR Experience was shot on location during the movie’s filming — both in Malta and at Practical Magic’s studio in Burbank.
